Welcome to Autism Awareness Northwest!

Autism Awareness Gweedore was established in August 2019.  A small number of people, with a vision to promote Autism inclusion and awareness, decided to set up the group, to help raise awareness and increase the understanding of Autism.  Disillusioned with the lack of autism awareness and supports in the area, the group quickly received a positive response.

In June 2020, the group then rebranded and changed to Autism Awareness Northwest, covering a wider catchment area, from Dungloe to Termon including Gortahork, Falcarragh, Dunfanaghy and Creeslough.

At Autism Awareness Northwest we passionately agree with Alfred Adler:

“Empathy is seeing with the eyes of another, listening with the ears of another and feeling with the heart of another.” — Alfred Adler

In our short existence, we have brought much-needed hope and positivity into the lives of families affected by autism, supported many businesses in helping them become more Autism-friendly, facilitated educational training, organised Autism awareness events and sensory events.  Currently, we are working closely with the people of Tory Island, in helping them become the first island of Ireland to become autism-friendly.
